What is HEIF/HEVC?

HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) / HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) is a new encoding technique adopted by Apple in iOS 11 that will effectively save storage space.

  • Photos taken in this format will be saved as .HEIC files.
  • Videos recorded in this format will be saved as .MOV files.

To improve compatibility, you can adjust your settings here:

Settings > Camera > Formats > Choose "Most Compatible" (JPEG/H.264) or "High Efficiency" (HEIF/HEVC)
